The future is a digital world. Learn what it takes to keep your personal information and national secrets safe. The Cybersecurity certificate utilizes the basic of both theory and hands-on activities to help students develop the skills necessary to ensure security controls are in place in order to safeguard digital files and vital electronic infrastructure. Students also learn the tools and techniques required to stop hackers in their tracks whether it's responding to computer security breaches or viruses. This certificate track includes the Security+ certification preparation course. The Security+ certification course is an industry recognized certification required by many employers before students can enter the cybersecurity field.

Additional Cybersecurity Information

  • Microsoft Office 365 software is provided free from the college. This software includes Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and OneDrive.
  • Information Technology and Systems program provides students taking an INFO course the ability to download Microsoft software for free from our Imagine Academy. This software includes a majority of Microsoft’s software including Windows, Visual Studio, Project, Visio, etc.
  • Other open source software is used in the program and is typically free for students. Students have access to our Virtual Desktop which allows them to remotely log into our server and access software provided by the college.
  • Students in the Developer specialization are required to purchase their own web hosting site. Cost for this can vary with some free options available. Students typically chose the plan that is best for them and most pay a minimal monthly fee per month.

Starting Wages / Earning Potential

  • The median annual wage for information security analysts was $112,000 in May 2022.
  • Employment of information security analysts is projected to grow 32 percent from 2022 to 2032, much faster than the average for all occupations. About 16,800 openings for information security analysts are projected each year, on average, over the decade. Many of those openings are expected to result from the need to replace workers who transfer to different occupations or exit the labor force, such as to retire.

  • The tech sector, which holds four of the top 10 best jobs, is projected to see the third-largest increase in employment from 2021-2031, behind the leisure and hospitality sector and the health care and social assistance sector. Job prospects in the technology sector should remain strong, thanks to an increase in demand for services related to telework, such as IT security and computer infrastructure for businesses.
