The typical day of a dedicated duck hunter is standing in three feet of water at 5:00 o' clock on a chilly morning. It is important to be prepared for these conditions by having all the right equipment. This also makes you a successful hunter.
Duck hunting equipment includes:
Clothing
Duck season is in the fall and winter so dressing warm is important. Duck hunters spend a lot of time standing in water by setting up decoys, retrieving ducks, and shooting ducks. Hunters wear waterproof pants to keep from getting wet. Ducks also have good vision so wearing camouflage is necessary.
Blinds
Blinds are very effective for concealing hunters. They need to be in places where ducks are likely to go. Most permanent blinds look like small shacks with an opening that faces water. Natural blinds are covered with grass and other vegetation.
Decoys
Decoys are fake ducks and geese that hunters place to get birds to come into the area. They cause ducks and geese to come closer to the water and in shooting range for hunters.

Calls
Duck calls are used to attract ducks to the location you are hunting. Different ducks and geese have unique calls. The most common and most hunted duck in the U.S. is the mallard. It makes the well known “quack” sound we associate with ducks.
Dogs
Dogs can also be used when duck hunting. Labrador Retrievers are most commonly used as hunting dogs. They can recover wounded birds because of their keen sense of smell.
Guns
The guns used for hunting ducks and geese are 12 gauge shot guns. Number 5, 4, 3, 2, or 1 shot are used for ducks and B, BB, or BBB shot are used for geese.
